In the heat of summer (and sometimes when it just isn’t raining – we will take what we can get on the coast), there is a sea of fit scantily clad bodies covering the sand at the beach by my house. Observing this day after day, it would be easy to let my mind to wander and start to compare myself.

If you’re just tolerating something, it isn’t going to last. Case in point: Last fall, I decided I should be running, so I joined a running clinic before I could change my mind. I didn’t look forward to each run but was motivated by the group and the goal at the end so I kept it up. I went from sucking wind after 5 km to running a 10 km race in a time I was proud of.
